Regional I-SICS competition at the University of Pannonia

Regional competition in VeszprémIn cooperation with international partners the University of Pannonia – Faculty of Business and Economics organises the I-SICS International Social Innovation Competition. The regional round of the competition was organised on 27 May 2016 at the University of Pannonia.

The I-SICS project aims to raise the awareness of university students to the most important problems of their regions, and urge them to think in a socially responsible way, so that they can become effective and committed activists of their homelands.

On the regional competition the students presented their ideas in the topic of social innovation. These concepts are up-to-date, useful and satisfy needs of society and establish new social cooperation. A lot of deeply interesting ideas were presented on the competition, for example:

  • Workplace for people with reduced capacity to work
  • Positive Psychology Empowering Youth Education
  • Training program for entrants and elders over the age of 50
  • Career counselling service
  • Job seeking support service
  • Enterprise specialized to bioproduction
  • Leisure and healthcare centre

The three best ideas are qualified to the international competition which will be organised in August 2016 in Balatonalmádi.

The winners are:

1st place: Helga Szabó and Veronika Leitner with career counselling service project
2nd place: Viktória Krémer, Szilvia Kántor and Flórián Strack whit a leisure and healthcare centre project
3rd place: Szabolcs Gyula Gergina, György Horváth, Lívia Knausz and Zsófia Plander with Job seeking support service project

Regional I-SICS competition in Zalaegerszeg

I-SICS local competition in ZalaegerszegThe pre-selection round of I-SICS International Social Innovation Competition was held on 26th May, 2016 at the House of Chambers in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary.

The competitors are university students in Zala county: three teams came from the Zalaegerszeg Training Centre of the University of Pécs, Faculty of Health and two from the University of Pannonia, Nagykanizsa Campus. Teams were expected to elaborate their ideas, send the detailed project idea in writing and present it at the regional competition. Preparing for the contest, students were provided a training on social enterprises and they were also supported by a mentor.

The ideas were for example:

  • Smartbook instead of heavy book in early school
  • Workplace for disabled people in herb garden and tea house
  • Voluntary organisation for collect the voluntary activities
  • Revitalize Hungarian traditions
  • Teaching the good sitting posture in a workplace

The winner of the competition was the team “Idea of Tomorrow” (Mr. Adrián Árvai, Mr. Norbert Gergely, and Mr. Dániel Horváth) from the University of Pannonia, Nagykanizsa Campus with idea of “Smartbook” with application instead of heavy book.

Second place was awarded to the team “Createam” (Ms. Mariann Aigner, Ms. Vivien Gyenese, and Ms. Anita Párizs) from the Zalaegerszeg Training Centre of the University of Pécs, Faculty of Health with idea of 5 minutes moving exercises in the workplaces.

Third place was awarded to the team “Ladies of Traditions” (Ms. Enikő Vígh and Ms. Júlia Sümegi) from the Zalaegerszeg Training Centre of the University of Pécs, Faculty of Health with revitalize the old traditions.

Regional I-SICS competition at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Reus

The winners of the national competition in Spain.The Spanish national final of the I-SICS competition took place in May 18th at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Reus, Tarragona.

There three winners were:

Gisela Costa, masters student, for her project “Incluser” , a proposal to create a socially responsible company dedicated to catering services, that focuses on creating employment and inclusion of individuals who suffer from mental disabilities.

Lucas Amat, emasters student, with the “Adopt a wall” project, an organisation dedicated to social inclusion through urban art.

Manuel Gros, masters student, with the project entitled “StrateDo”, an application that promotes access to marketing consultancy services to companies and organisations that would otherwise not have this access, mostly because of their size and limited budgets.

There were other proposals such as a line of socially conscious cosmetics, sustainable architecture and a project aimed at improving the urban environment by facilitating the idenitfication and reporting of problems by local citizens.

I-SICS trainings

I-SICS TrainingIn order to create a feasible social business plan we organised a training for every participant of the competition in February and March.

The training program was based on The Social Enterprising Europe (SEE) Learning Program, which has been designed to complement basic entrepreneurship know-how.

During the training students/adult learners prepared a social business plan.

Why?

Social problemsWe are surrounded by a number of urging social issues today: social exclusion, poverty, high unemployment rates, aging population, deteriorating environment and many more. These problems are unfortunately present everywhere in the world, and we are faced with them in our immediate vicinity as well.

Our project aims at raising the awareness of university students to the most important problems of their regions, and at urging them to think in a socially responsible way, so that they become active and committed actors of their homelands.
